Located in the rural town of Granja do Tedo, Tabuaço, “Casa da Montanha" occupies a land of about 670 m2, which is developed in several terraces. In the highest area of the land there was a pre-existing construction of about 100 years, consisting of granite walls and a wooden structure. This building, in high state of degradation, was partially demolished, maintaining the granite walls.
The project was developed with the clear intention of keeping the entire existing construction system unchanged, adapting it to the current needs of the owner. In addition to respecting all the natural surroundings where the dwelling is inserted, we also enhanced the traditional materials of the region, giving them, however, a contemporary design. In this sense, granite was used as structure and wood and iron as coating.
The housing is divided into three sectors: a cellar / wine cellar, a music rehearsal room and the housing program. The body characterized by the granite parameters has two floors and the body covered with wood has three floors. Structurally, the program was organized in "half floors", implementing vertical circulation in both bodies and thus ensuring connection to the various levels.
