In 1995, as part of the Urbanization Plan of the city of Porto, it was intended to create an avenue parallel to Boavista Avenue, which extends the city's nascent/west connections, crossing the VCI – the city's main thoroughfare – with a new viaduct.

Approved the layout of this new avenue, including preventive measures in the surrounding area, in 1996, the urban design of the buildings, located between the S. João de Brito and S.João Bosco streets, was promoted.

The works for the accesses to the Bessa Stadium, under Euro 2004 program, contemplated the design of the entire planned route, as well as a large part of its connections to the adjacent urban network. This study carried out the creation and execution of various works, namely the construction of Viaduto das Andresas, the connection between the new Paralela Avenue and the AIP Avenue, and the requalification of the Viaduct of Pedro Hispano.
