This house is located in a rural location in Tabuaço, on a building plot developing along several terraced platforms, with a surface area of 670m² and an East-West orientation. A pre-existing 100 years old construction was located at the highest part of the terrain, partly made of stone walls and a wooden structure.
This heavily degraded building was partially demolished maintaining only the stone walls. The project was developed with the clear intention of keeping the original structure, adapting it to the current needs of comfort and to the program designated by the owner.
We sought to enhance the traditional materials of the region, while giving them a contemporary design, respecting all the natural surroundings where this house is inserted.
Stone was used as structure, and wood and iron as coating. The program distributed along the three floors of this house is divided into three sectors: a wine cellar, a music studio, and the housing program. Structurally the program was organized in “half-floors”. As for the materials, we chose to cover the 2-storey building on stone while the 3-storey volume was covered in wood.
The main entrance of the building is also located at the wooden façade. The living room and kitchen are located on the first floor while the remaining bedrooms and toilets stay on the two others uneven floors.
